There is something about Dan Aceda's single "Safari" that makes me nostalgic. If I closed my eyes I could easily imagine myself at the beach with my family on a Sunday afternoon, being treated to fresh tilapia and an old-school live band. Clearly this sense of nostalgia is shared by others who have deemed Aceda "the crown prince of Benga". For those of you who might not know, Benga is a genre of Kenyan music that was especially popular in the late 40's to the late 60's. If you are familiar with Dan Aceda it will come as no surprise that "Safari" is love song, but you might be wondering what safari has to do with love. Well, in Swahili the word safari refers to any long journey and not strictly an expedition to see wild life. The singer, who is known for his story telling lyrics, plays a character who goes on a long journey (safari) in the middle of a budding romance, leaving his "one and only" quite sad.
