Milk Coffee & Sugar recently traveled to Mali where they found inspiration for some of their latest work. The conscious hip-hop duo spent time between Bamako and Segou, interacting with local farmers and learning about the numerous hardships that such farmers face due to the desert environment that surrounds them. The single "Balazan" refers to a tree that is resistant to climatic change and in fact works to enrich the soil, provide food for livestock, and prevent land slides. In conjunction with Zanbal, a project that works to help farmers by growing Balanzan trees, Milk Coffee & Sugar use this single to promote the project by telling the world about the Malian farmers and their daily struggle to survive. The single was recorded in Bamako, in the legendary Salif Keita's studio, where Milk Coffee & Sugar collaborated with local band Bamakool jazz: adding the beautiful and unmistakable sound of Malian acoustics.
